The Nigeria Police Mobile Training College (Forest Camp), Ila-Orangun, Osun State, has announced plans to conduct a routine operational shooting range exercise as part of its regular training and firearms proficiency programme for police personnel.
In a public announcement issued by the Osun State Police Command, Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on Thursday, the exercise is scheduled to hold on Friday, July 17, 2026, between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the college’s shooting range in Ila-Orangun.
The police advised residents of Ila-Orangun and neighbouring communities, particularly farmers, hunters and other forest users, to avoid the designated area throughout the period of the exercise.
The Command also urged members of the public not to panic or entertain fear on hearing gunshots, explaining that the live-fire exercise would be conducted under strict safety measures by trained Mobile Police officers.
The Commandant of the Training College, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anietie Eyoh, assured residents that the exercise is strictly a training activity aimed at enhancing the operational readiness, professionalism, competency and efficiency of Mobile Police personnel in the discharge of their constitutional duties.
He stressed that there was no cause for alarm.
The commandant appreciated the understanding, collaboration and cooperation of the host community and the general public, urging residents to continue with their lawful activities while remaining security conscious.
Parts of the statement reads, “The Nigeria Police Mobile Training College, Ila-Orangun, Osun State wishes to inform the general public that the Training College will conduct a routine operational shooting range exercise within its forest as part of its regular training and firearms proficiency programme for police personnel.
“The exercise is scheduled to take place on 17/07/2026 between 6:00am and 6:00pm at the college shooting range Ila-Orangun.
“Members of the public particularly the residents of Ila-Orangun and its environs, famers, hunters and other forest users are advised to take note, avoid the designated area throughout the period of the exercise and not to panic or entertain any kind of fear on hearing the sound of gunshots during the exercise as the firing will be carried out under strict safety measures by trained Mobile Police Officers.
“The commandant of the Training College, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Anietie Eyoh assures residents that the exercise is purely a training activity aimed at enhancing the operational readiness, professionalism, competency and efficiency of Mobile personnel in the course of discharging their constitutional duties; so there is no cause for alarm.
