The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, on Tuesday insisted that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima represent the kind of leadership Prophet Muhammad warned Muslims against.
Adebayo made the assertion during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he dismissed the relevance of the Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The SDP presidential candidate argued that Tinubu and Shettima do not represent the ideals of Islam in public office, maintaining that their style of leadership contradicts the principles taught by Prophet Muhammad.
He alleged that their administration lacked justice, truth, honesty, kindness and charity, which he described as core values of Islamic leadership.
Adebayo further stated that it would make no sense for Nigerians to embrace the same leadership arrangement again, insisting that the Muslim-Muslim ticket should not be used to seek another mandate.
President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima were elected in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, there have been speculations that Shettima may be replaced with a Christian running mate.
