There are growing speculations over the next political destination of former Special Adviser on Education to ex-Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, Hon. Jamiu Babatunde Olawumi, following his appearance at the Accord Media Centre shortly after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Olawumi, who recently announced his resignation from the APC, has yet to officially declare his next political move.
However, his visit to the Accord Media Centre has fuelled discussions within political circles ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The former aide was received by the member representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bamidele Salam, alongside members of the Accord media team during what observers described as a strategic visit.
His appearance comes amid the lingering crisis within the Osun APC following the disqualification of former National Secretary of the party, Dr Iyiola Omisore, from the party’s governorship nomination screening process.
Olawumi is widely regarded as one of the loyalists of Omisore, whose exclusion from the governorship race has generated discontent among some party members and supporters across the state.
The development has coincided with a series of resignations by individuals believed to be aligned with the former APC National Secretary, raising concerns about possible political realignments ahead of the governorship poll.
Meanwhile, the visit attracted reactions on social media, with one of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s aides, Iyiola Monsuru, publicly welcoming Olawumi.
In a post shared on social media, Monsuru described the former APC chieftain as one of the most respected politicians he knows and extended a warm reception to him.
He wrote “We welcome you accordingly, Sir. Jamiu Babatunde Olawumi You’re one of the most respected politicians I know on this street.”
As of the time of filing this report, Olawumi has not made any public statement regarding his future political affiliation, leaving political observers to continue speculating on his next move.
