A former Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations during the administration of former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, Hon. Taiwo Akeju, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akeju announced his resignation in a letter dated June 4, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 01, Iwara, in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State.
In the letter titled “Resignation of Membership,” the former commissioner stated that his decision takes immediate effect.
According to him, the resignation followed a careful review of his political journey.
“I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress. Please note that this resignation takes immediate effect. This decision is personal and taken after a careful review of my political journey,” the letter read.
The resignation marks another high-profile exit from the APC in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Hon. Akeju is a veteran politician with a long history in public service and political activism. He served as Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations under the Oyetola administration and was also a former Commissioner at the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) during the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
His political résumé also includes service as Special Assistant to the Presidency on Culture and Civil Matters, former Director of the Osun State Property Development Corporation, and former Special Assistant to the late Senate Leader, Prof. Wande Abimbola.
A founding member of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Akeju was among pro-democracy activists detained and tried for treason and treasonable felony during the military era alongside prominent figures including President Bola Tinubu, the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti and Comrade Ola Oni.
As of the time of filing this report, the former commissioner did not disclose his next political destination.
