Tension erupted in parts of Kano State after a group of youths was seen in viral videos burning posters of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In one of the videos circulating on social media, the youths gathered around posters bearing the images of the two politicians before setting them ablaze, while chanting slogans and expressing their displeasure.
In a separate video, the Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Hon. Bilyaminu Bachirawa, was reportedly forced to flee as an angry crowd surrounded him.
The youths were heard repeatedly shouting “Bamayi! Bamayi!”—a Hausa expression loosely translated as “We don’t want it” or “We reject it.”
Although the exact cause of the protest could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report, the incident comes just days after Peter Obi emerged as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election.
Obi was affirmed as the party’s sole aspirant during a special convention held in Abuja and subsequently accepted the nomination.
Shortly after his emergence, Obi announced Kwankwaso as his running mate, forming what political observers describe as one of the most significant opposition alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
