Operatives of the Kebbi State Hisbah Board have arrested a man allegedly found hiding inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag at the residence of a married woman in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Director of Sharia at the board, Sirajo Kamba, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.
Kamba explained that residents of the area alerted Hisbah officials around 12:15 a.m. on Monday after observing a man entering the woman’s residence under suspicious circumstances.
According to him, the residents suspected an alleged illicit relationship said to be contrary to Islamic teachings and subsequently reported the matter to the authorities.
He disclosed that officers of the board were immediately deployed to the house for investigation.
Kamba further stated that when the operatives arrived at the residence and requested to conduct a search, the woman initially denied that anyone else was inside the house.
He, however, said the woman later granted the officers access to search the apartment thoroughly.
During the search, the suspect was reportedly discovered concealed inside a “Ghana Must-Go” bag within the house.
The director added that preliminary investigation revealed an alleged romantic relationship between the suspect and the married woman.
He stated that both suspects allegedly admitted to the allegation during interrogation and would be arraigned in court in accordance with Islamic law.
“The residents suspected an illicit affair contrary to Islamic teachings, hence their decision to formally notify the authority.
“Upon receiving the report, the Kebbi Hisbah Board swiftly deployed officers to investigate.
“When officers arrived, they requested permission to search the house but the woman initially denied that no one was inside,” he narrated.
