A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Ibrahim Abdulmumin Adeiza, has died in Zamfara State seven days before the completion of his mandatory one-year national service.
Adeiza, who was a medical doctor serving at Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, reportedly died on May 13, 2026.
A friend of the deceased, identified as Habibu Nura, disclosed that the corps member allegedly slumped around 1:00 p.m. after stepping out with a colleague to purchase a plastic bottle.
According to Nura, the young doctor died about one hour later.
He explained that Adeiza showed no signs of illness before the incident, adding that they had been together laughing and chatting barely an hour before his death.
The Information and Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Ministry of Health, Suleiman Isah, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Zamfara State Government condoled with the NYSC and the family of the deceased over the loss of the corps member who died while serving at the hospital.
The Commissioner for Health in Zamfara State, Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, described the death of the young doctor as a painful loss to the health sector and the state.
The commissioner stated that the deceased was dedicated, hardworking, and committed to saving lives during his service year.
She also prayed for Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanatul Firdaus, while asking God to comfort his family, colleagues, friends, and members of the NYSC community over the loss.
