Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to his political mentor and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over alleged political misunderstandings between them.
Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s “Your View” programme on Friday, where he stated that any offence he may have caused Gbajabiamila was unintentional.
The apology comes amid lingering political tensions linked to the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, during which Gbajabiamila disclosed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency over allegations tied to Elliot’s political activities.
Gbajabiamila had earlier claimed that President Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging Elliot’s involvement in moves to impeach Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, an allegation Elliot reportedly denied.
Speaking during the programme, Elliot explained that he entered politics under the guidance of Gbajabiamila, whom he described as his elder brother and political mentor.
He stated that emotions and misunderstandings may have contributed to the differences between them.
Elliot further said he was not bothered by public reactions to his apology, insisting that Gbajabiamila remained someone he respected deeply because he learned politics under him.
The lawmaker admitted that mistakes are inevitable in political relationships and apologised to the Chief of Staff for any offence he may have caused him.
He also extended an apology to whom he described as the “matriarch of Surulere,” expressing regret over any offence caused.
Despite the apology, Elliot maintained that he remained committed to strengthening the party and delivering on his mandate to residents of Surulere.
He added that his achievements and contributions toward the development of Surulere remained visible to the people of the constituency.
