…. We’re ready to mobilize for APC to ensure victory
A youth-led group, Osun West Progressive Youth Network, on Wednesday called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the Osun West senatorial ticket to Ede Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The demand was made during a press conference held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where the group stressed the need for equity, fairness, and internal balance within the party.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the spokesperson, Adedokun Ismail, said the position followed extensive consultations across the senatorial district and was aimed at strengthening unity and electoral success.
He noted that zoning the ticket to Ede Federal Constituency, comprising Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo, would ensure inclusive participation and strategic balance within the APC.
He explained that the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate from Irewole Federal Constituency makes it necessary to distribute other key political positions fairly across the district.
Ismail noted that Ede Federal Constituency stands out as a strong electoral bloc, with the highest number of polling units in Osun West, totaling 450 across Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo.
He added that Ejigbo Local Government, with 133 polling units, remains a major component of the constituency and has consistently demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the party over the years.
According to him, data from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Continuous Voter Registration further shows that Ede Federal Constituency leads in the number of registered voters across the senatorial district.
He stated that the constituency also has the highest number of registered voters, with 253,532, compared to 195,207 in Ayedaade, Irewole, and Isokan, and 164,291 in Ayedire, Iwo, and Ola-Oluwa.
Ismail said the figures reflect the constituency’s strong grassroots mobilisation and growing political engagement, which position it as a decisive factor in electoral outcomes.
He added that the electoral strength of Ede Federal Constituency underscores its capacity to contribute significantly to the party’s success in the August 15, 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
The group also cited the need for rotational fairness, noting that Iwo Federal Constituency produced a senator between 2019 and 2023, while Ede last held the position between 2015 and 2017.
The spokesperson maintained that zoning the senatorial ticket to Ede Federal Constituency would promote justice, inclusiveness, and political stability within Osun West Senatorial District.
He said, “Zoning the senatorial ticket to Ede Federal Constituency (E4) represents not only a gesture of fairness, but also a strategic step towards strengthening internal harmony and consolidating electoral advantage across Osun West Senatorial District.
“We emphasise respectfully that this position is not driven by sentiment, but by a careful assessment of equity, data, and long-term party interest. As young stakeholders, we remain deeply committed to the unity, progress, and electoral success of our party, and we are confident that inclusive decision-making will further strengthen our collective strength.
The group, whose coordinator, Adegoke Omobolanle, said it has been in operation for over 15 years, reaffirmed its commitment to the APC and urged party leaders to consider the proposal in the overall interest of unity and electoral victory.
She said “We therefore humbly appeal to our esteemed party leaders, elders, and decision-makers at all levels to give this proposal thoughtful consideration in the broader interest of justice, balance, and electoral viability in Osun West Senatorial District.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to progressive ideals, internal unity, and disciplined political engagement. We remain ready to mobilise constructively across all federal constituencies in Osun West to ensure overwhelming victory for our party in 2027”.
