Hunters – Members of the Nigeria Forest Security Service in Osun State have declared support for the re-election bid of Bola Tinubu and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji.
The group, comprising local hunters and led by its chairman, Nureni Ahmed, made this known after a meeting with APC leaders in Osogbo on Monday.
Speaking after the meeting, the Executive Director (Project Monitoring and Implementation) of the Federal Housing Authority, Remi Omowaiye, said the group also appealed to the President to assent to the bill regulating the operations of the service.
Omowaiye stated that the hunters reiterated the need for collaboration in addressing insecurity in Osun and urged the President to assent to the Nigeria Forest Security Service bill.
He added that about 8,000 forest guards in the state had pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election and the emergence of Oyebamiji in the forthcoming governorship election.
According to him, the group also sought stronger synergy in tackling insecurity across the state and the country at large.
Commending the hunters, Omowaiye expressed confidence in their commitment, noting that the APC would work with them to improve security in Osun and beyond.
He said he was confident the hunters would fulfil their promises, adding that efforts would be made to work with them to improve the security situation in Osun and Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Osun NFSS commander, Ahmed, urged Tinubu to sign the NFSS bill as part of broader strategies to tackle insecurity nationwide.
He reiterated the group’s commitment to supporting the APC in the forthcoming poll, adding that members would actively mobilise voters across the state.
Ahmed noted that the group, numbering about 8,000 members in the state, would mobilise their families and associates to ensure electoral victory.
Meanwhile, ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun, political alignments continue to shift, with different groups declaring support for their preferred candidates.
Members of the National and State Assemblies elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have endorsed the candidate of the Accord Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, read by the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, who cited Adeleke’s performance in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, and democratic stability.
